Hi Devan, I did attempt to fix anything -- in my case I had full control over the monitoring system's parser and patched it so that it recognises host unreachable as offline, too. In case you cannot modify that part, maybe talking to Microsoft Tech Support directly about this issue will help? Good luck!

I just ran across this myself and it's causing havoc with my monitoring system. I happened only after I replaced my LINUX gateway (acting as a firewall) with a Juniper SRX firewall. My windows 2008 server where my altering software is running suddenly started returning host unreachable instead of request times out. My Vista laptop started the same behavior. It only happens when pinging down or non-existant hosts/IPs on the same subnet as the server. If I ping a down host or non-existant IP on a remote subnet I get the correct response (request timed out).

Have you had any luck figuring out your problem?

frankly I don't know how. It's also not complete. :( but I once used it to sync up the ratings and play counts between two different iTunes libraries - one on my mac mini on 10.5, the other one on a Windows PC running XP. Can you just get a copy svn and do with it what you want? ;)

What's even more odd is that I've noticed that this happens ONLY to my Linux/Mac machines. It doesn't happen to my Windows clients when I ping from my Server 2008 box.

Still looking for a solution, because it doesn't allow me to map drives to my W2k8 box from my Linux machines.

Update some 2 years later: These days everyone has Remote.App on their iPhones or iPod Touch, where toggling the iTunes speakers is fully integrated. That is, if you still listen to iTunes. I spend more time listening to Spotify, and hence became a user of Airfoil in order to stream it to all rooms!

What I'm curious about is the wireless. If it works for you, have you gotten it to work with WPA[2]? Did you have to use an NDIS wrapper?

Hi Kai,

I too have a t60p (model 8744-C9U) and am interested if Opensuse 10.3 is working well as an all around operating system. Were you able to get wifi, power management, bluetooth, and most other basics working?

Also I have a 100GB HDD in my Thinkpad, and want to dual boot with Windows XP, and I'm curious how you did your partitioning or what you'd recommend.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
David
